Advanced Encryption for your financial data

FinancialAha protects your financial data, including your shared portfolios with end-to-end-encryption.

Note: Advanced Encryption is applicable for all accounts using cloud storage that have enabled end-to-end encryption. For browser storage or manual import/export, you are responsible for securing your financial data.

TL;DR: Benefit from the highest level of security and privacy for your financial data thanks to FinancialAha's end-to-end encryption. Turn it on in your account, set up a recovery method, and start planning your finances.

End-to-end Encryption

FinancialAha's end-to-end encryption means that no one, not even FinancialAha, can access your data without your permission.

What is end-to-end encryption?

Each FinancialAha user has a public key and a private encryption key. Your financial data is encrypted with your public key and can only be decrypted using your private key. Because only you have access to your private key, only you can read your data.

When end-to-end encryption is active for your account, your financial data is encrypted on your device with your public key before being transmitted to FinancialAha's servers where it remains encrypted. When you request access to your data from the server, FinancialAha sends the encrypted data to your personal device where it is decrypted with your private key.

How to manage the security keys?

FinancialAha's advanced end-to-end encryption happens automatically and in the background. You don't need any technical knowledge to benefit from FinancialAha's end-to-end encryption, and you don't need to manage, share, or distribute public and private encryption keys. Simply activate the end-to-end encryption option in your account settings and your data will automatically be encrypted, keeping them private and safe.

Advantages

  • Data Security: End-to-end encryption ensures that your data remains secure and confidential during transmission, protecting it from interception or eavesdropping by unauthorized parties.
  • Increased Privacy: Only you and any intended collaborators can decrypt the data, preserving your privacy and preventing third parties, including FinancialAha, from accessing or viewing the content of your financial data.
  • Limited Data Disclosure: In case FinancialAha is legally obliged to disclose your data, we will only be able to disclose the limited data that we posses about you. FinancialAha is designed to make your financial data inaccessible without your explicit consent.

Disadvantages

FinancialAha does not have access to your password or to your private encryption key. Therefore, if you forget your password, your data cannot be decrypted, making it unrecoverable.

To prevent this scenario from happening, we strongly recommend you to set an account recovery method. Learn more about setting up data recovery methods and password reset.

If you do not set an account recovery method, you won't be able to access any of your financial data when you reset your password.

Secure Sharing and Collaboration

FinancialAha also implements end-to-end encrypted collaboration with your advisors, partner or other collaborators. Only the people you share your financial portfolio with can access your data, keeping you in control. To benefit from this high level of security make sure you have activated end-to-end encryption in your account and read more about portfolio sharing.

Conclusion and Recommendations

End-to-end encryption provides robust security and privacy protection for your financial data, but it also comes with the risk of data loss. To mitigate this risk, FinancialAha has implemented some methods for data recovery. Setting up account recovery methods will offer you peace of mind while take advantage of the benefits provided by the end-to-end encryption.
